At Wheel Forward, we are dedicated to ensuring that seniors in San Diego receive the nutrition and support they need to thrive. Our senior meal programs, which include Meals on Wheels and congregate meal sites, directly combat food insecurity among homebound seniors and those in community settings. These vital services not only provide nutritious meals but also offer essential companionship and safety checks, creating a lifeline for many.
Each dollar you donate is strategically leveraged to maximize impact. For just $7, a home-delivered meal provides not only nourishment but also a friendly face that checks in on our seniors. When you donate, you're not just giving money; you are contributing to a meaningful change in the lives of our elders, making a significant difference for many households in our community.

↗Real impact, real numbers
Your generosity can have a profound impact on the lives of our seniors. A donation of $1,500 can fund over 200 home-delivered meals, which include both delicious food and wellness checks. If you choose to give $2,500, that could support around 300 meals, ensuring that seniors receive nutritious options throughout the week. At $5,000, you could provide more than 700 meals at congregate sites, where seniors can enjoy meals together, fostering connection and community. Every meal served is more than just food; it’s a step toward ensuring our elders feel cared for and valued.
How we vet recipient partners
At Wheel Forward, we prioritize transparency and accountability in our partnerships. We partner with organizations that are vetted according to Area Agencies on Aging standards, ensuring they comply with federal and state accountability measures. Our collaborators are members of the Meals on Wheels America network and adhere to the nutritional standards outlined in the Older Americans Act Title III-C. We also focus on programs with no or short waiting lists, indicating they have sufficient funding to meet community needs effectively.
How proceeds flow
When you donate your vehicle, around 70-80% of the gross proceeds from the sale, after tow and processing costs, go directly to support our partner organizations. These funds are then allocated according to program ratios that ensure maximum benefit for seniors in our meal programs. This means that your contribution truly makes a difference, directly supporting essential nutrition services for those who need them most.
San Diego recipient landscape
San Diego faces unique challenges when it comes to senior nutrition, with a growing aging population and limited resources for feeding those in need. Local meal programs play a crucial role in addressing these challenges, offering vital services that help our seniors maintain their health and wellbeing. As state-level funding can be unpredictable, your donations become ever more critical in ensuring that these programs remain funded and successful in the long run.
