At Wheel Forward, we understand that nearly any vehicle can contribute to our mission of connecting San Diego residents with essential benefits. Whether your car has seen better days or is a reliable ride, we accept a wide variety of vehicles—drivable or not. Your donation not only helps fund our free benefits-research service, but it also provides fellow community members access to vital programs like CalFresh and Medi-Cal. So, if you have a vehicle taking up space in your driveway or garage, consider donating it to help local families thrive!
Categories we accept
Donated cars and sedans are often sold at auction, providing funds that directly help our mission. Even older models can be disassembled for parts, ensuring that every contribution counts towards assisting local families.
Many San Diegans drive sedans for daily commutes, making this a common donation category as people upgrade their vehicles.
Pickup trucks are versatile in their donation potential. They are usually sold at auction, and their parts can serve DIY enthusiasts or be recycled, providing maximum benefit to the community.
With the active lifestyle in San Diego, pickup trucks are popular for weekend adventures, making this category a frequent donation choice.
SUVs and crossovers are often sold through auctions and can also be repurposed for their parts, aiding in neighborhood repairs and offering support for local mechanics.
A family favorite in San Diego, these vehicles are perfect for beach trips and outdoor activities, contributing to community-friendly donations.
Motorcycles are typically auctioned or sold to collectors and enthusiasts. Their compact size makes them easy to transport and contributes significantly to funding our local programs.
With San Diego's beautiful weather, motorcycles are a popular choice for weekend rides, making donations from enthusiasts common.
RVs and campers may be sold at auction or dismantled for parts, which can generate significant funding due to their value and demand in the market.
San Diego's access to beautiful parks and beaches makes RVs popular for family vacations, leading to many donations from those upgrading to newer models.
Boats are often sold at auctions or through private sales, with parts being recycled as needed. Their unique nature increases their potential to fund community programs.
Living in a coastal city, many San Diegans have boats for recreation, creating ample donation opportunities as people upgrade.
Commercial vehicles are typically auctioned, providing funds that directly support local benefits programs. They may also be repurposed for parts to benefit small businesses.

Even vehicles that can’t run anymore can be valuable. They are usually recycled for parts or scrap, ensuring that nothing goes to waste and supporting our cause.
Many San Diegans have old, non-running vehicles that sit in their garages—donating these helps free up space and supports the community.
Condition guide
When considering donating your vehicle, it's important to understand the different conditions we accept. Running vehicles are ideal and often sold at auction; however, we also welcome non-running vehicles. If your vehicle is inoperable, it can still be recycled for parts or scrapped, ensuring that it provides value even in its current state. We want to maximize every donation's potential impact for San Diego families in need.
Vehicles with salvage titles can also be accepted, but clear titles make the process easier. If your vehicle has significant damage but can be repaired, we may still take it. In cases where a lienholder is present, or if the title is missing, eligibility is assessed on a case-by-case basis, ensuring we can still support your donation's potential.
Title status
| Title status | Accepted? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| clean title | yes | Clean titles are straightforward—these vehicles can be processed quickly and efficiently for auction. |
| salvage | with restrictions | Vehicles with salvage titles can be accepted, but we require pre-assessment to understand their condition. |
| rebuilt/reconstructed | case-by-case | Rebuilt or reconstructed titles must be reviewed on an individual basis to determine if they meet our acceptance criteria. |
| lienholder present | case-by-case | If there's a lienholder, we need to make sure we can clear the title before proceeding with the donation. |
| missing title | case-by-case | Missing titles can complicate donations, but we evaluate each situation individually to see how we can help. |
